Outline of our laboratory

 Our laboratory aims at establishing environmental management systems from engineering point of view, through developing bio/eco-technologies for wastewater treatment, waste recycling, bioremediation and monitoring for the polluted environment.

Main Projects

1.  Development of advanced waste/wastewater treatment technologies
 (1) Effective treatment of high-strength starch wastewater using fungi pellets
 (2) Development of activated sludge fuzzy automatic control system
 (3) Application of PCR method to biological wastewater treatment process
 (4) Microbial decolorization of melanoidin-containing wastewater using white rot fungi

2. Bioremediation for the polluted sites
 (1) Phenanthrene uptake in PAH-degrading bacteria
 (2) Evaluation of surfactant partiation for phenanthrene-contaminated soils

3. Environmental monitoring
 (1) Rapid detection of Nocardia amarae in activated sludge process using ELISA
 (2) Applicability of environmental microorganisms to alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay

4. Recycling technology for waste
 (1) Recovery of biomass cellulose from sewage waste sludge
 (2) Development of freeze-drying apparatus for sewage sludge
